Free agent Khris Middleton has agreed on a three-year, $17.6 million deal with the Washington Wizards via sign-and-trade, per @ShamsCharania. The 14-year veteran returns to D.C. where he spent parts of last two seasons as a leader with championship presence.
In return for Middleton, the Wizards are sending PG D’Angelo Russell, a 2029 second round pick via LAL, and a 2033 second round pick swap to the Memphis Grizzlies. The deal comes as a part of an enormous six team deal that includes, in total, the Mavericks, Wizards, Clippers, Pistons, Bucks and Grizzlies. It involves previously agreed upon deals such as John Collins, Gary Harris and Taurean Prince (Detroit), Isaiah Stewart (Memphis), Santi Aldama (Mavericks), Caris LeVert (Bucks), etc.
Since the beginning of 2026 the Wizards have added (or in this case re-added):
- Trae Young
- Anthony Davis
- DeAndre Ayton
- Khris Middleton
Washington is now LOADED with veteran experience who can help win games now while also serving as mentors for the teamโs young core. The move also represents an intriguing culture shift in Washington, evidenced in several instances over the last few seasons:
- Khris Middleton: Re-signed this year
- Trae Young said the Wizards were his โPreferred Destinationโ
- Anthony Davis noted that “Once you get inside the Wizards organization, the outside perception around the Wizards isnโt the realityโ
- CJ McCollum called the Wizards โOne of the most organized organizations Iโve been a part ofโ
- Marvin Bagley: Re-signed last year
- Recent draftees such as AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Ace Bailey, and Alex Sarr have been rumored to wish to end up in Washington during the draft process.
While it’s unclear if this will be the last move the Wizards make before the 2026-2027 season, what is clear is that something special is building in D.C. ๐ฏ
