After re-acquiring Khris Middleton this offseason in a six-team sign-and-trade, it looks like Will Dawkins is not finished making moves to this roster. The Wizards just acquired Tre Mann in an 4 team trade involving the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers. Washington receives Mann, a 2027 second-round pick from the Clippers and cash considerations, while sending Cam Whitmore to Cleveland and Julian Reese to Denver. Cleveland receives Peyton Watson and Whitmore, Denver receives an unprotected 2031 first-round pick, a 2032 second-round pick and Reese, while the Clippers receive Max Strus. So with all that being said what does the addition of Tre Mann mean for the Wizards?
Well, for starters let’s touch on the fact that we just traded away Cam Whitmore and Julian Reese. Whitmore was a healthy scratch earlier in the 2025-26 season due to “rotation and disciplinary reasons.” A healthy scratch is when “a player is completely healthy but is left off the active game lineup by the coach.” Whitmore later suffered a shoulder injury that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
In 21 games with Washington, Whitmore averaged 9.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game while shooting 45.6% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range. His two highest-scoring games came on November 10 against the Detroit Pistons and November 22 against the Chicago Bulls, when he scored 20 points in both games. Against Detroit, Whitmore also recorded seven rebounds and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Then, against Chicago, he finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists while shooting 7-for-10 from the field as the Wizards fell 121-120.
As for Julian Reese, the local University of Maryland star who the Wizards signed to a two-way contract on February 28, 2026, he will be missed by the local fans. During his time with Washington he made every second count when he was on the floor. Reese played 13 games and averaged 9.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 54.5% from the field.
For Reese’s best performance, that came on March 25 against the Utah Jazz, when he recorded a career-high 26 points and 17 rebounds while shooting 12-for-16 from the field. He also recorded a double-double before halftime and helped the Wizards defeat the Jazz 133-110, snapping Washington’s 16-game losing streak. Reese also made some Wizards history during that performance, becoming just the second rookie in franchise history to record a double-double before halftime, joining John Wall in that elite club.
Now for Tre Mann, I really think he could be a valuable scorer coming off the bench with his ability to create his own shot and provide an offensive spark. Tre was acquired by the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason but never played an official game for them before being traded to Washington. During the 2025-26 season with Charlotte, Tre had several strong performances, including 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists against Miami on November 7, and 20 points against Utah on January 10, where he shot 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from behind the arc.
Mann has also shown his scoring ability in previous seasons, averaging 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists over his first 13 games in 2024-25, including a 27-point performance against Toronto. His shot creation and scoring ability could give Washington a much-needed offensive spark off the bench while also creating competition for Bub Carrington‘s backup point guard spot. With Bub entering his third season, that competition could be exactly what he needs to take his game to the next level, especially with the Wizards showing that they are willing to bring in another guard to challenge him for those minutes.
