In an expected injury update, the Washington Wizards 1-of-1 draft pick, AJ Dybantsa, will make his NBA debut tonight. He sat out the team’s first four games with a mild ankle injury and was upgraded on the team’s injury report from questionable to available for tonightโs road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Although Dybantsa will be on a minutes restriction per a team official, this was expected as he will need to rebuild his stamina while testing his ankle in real game situations.
Dybantsa joins a revamped Washington roster that has opened the season with a 2-2 record in his absence. He is expected to step immediately into the starting lineup alongside star veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis, as well as young talents Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George. To ensure a safe return, team officials noted that Dybantsa will play under a minutes restriction for tonight’s game.
The 6-foot-9 forward out of BYU arrives with immense expectations after leading the NCAA in scoring last season with 25.5 points per game. While Bilal Coulibaly filled in admirably during the first four contests, Dybantsa’s elite scoring versatility is expected to provide a substantial long-term boost to the Wizards’ rebuilding efforts.
Washington faces a tough test on the road against a 2-1 Cleveland squad, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.
